F-35 Fighter Jet Crash - The Navy confirmed on Friday that both photos and video shared on social media of an F-35 fighter jet that crashed in the South China Sea this week were legitimate.
The images were taken by someone aboard the USS Carl Vinson, the Navy said. In addition to investigating the cause of the crash, the Navy is also now investigating the leaked photos and videos.

"The ship has determined that the video and photographs discussed in the media today were taken aboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) during the crash. The incident remains under investigation," the Navy said in a statement.

A 17-second video shared on Twitter shows the F-35 approaching the carrier, but does not show the flight attempting to land. The video also features the sound of an engine followed by a plume of smoke. The photo shows the plane floating in the South China Sea.
The Navy issued a statement on Monday that the F-35 landing mishap occurred aboard the USS Carl Vinson while conducting routine flight operations in the South China Sea.
The pilot ejected safely from the aircraft and was evacuated by a US military helicopter. A total of seven sailors were injured; Three required MEDEVAC to a medical facility in the Philippines and four were treated by shipboard medical personnel, according to a Navy statement.
According to Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby, the Navy intends to conduct an operation to recover the aircraft.
